The oil used for the lubrication systems of generators must be cleaned, since it can contain air,

moisture and various impurities. As a result, oil breakdown might take place, leading to failure

of the generator thrust bearings, which can cause a serious accident. In transformers, timely

cleaning and oil recovery can increase the breakdown voltage and reduce the dielectric loss factor.
